LOG - Queens Birthday Fly-Past
Saturday 14th June 2008
 and Rehearsal Weds 11/6/08

Saturday 14th June 2008

Well a good and a bad day really. The weather at Southwold was fine and sunny but for a reason known only to themselves the QBF went out to sea by a number of miles to form-up, instead of the usual racetrack half over land and half over the sea. However, we got to see them on the final run in. At that time all the fast jets were not in close formation, apart from the sixteen Tornado GR.4's which were in immaculate formation and up tight. There is some evidence that there was a third Hawk T.1 'whipper-in' in the air coded CL, we'll check the photo's carefully just to be sure before logging it in the list.

Thanks to all of you who have phoned, texted, e-mailed and sent photo's and to those of you who spotted the errors in the listing for the rehearsal which I've tagged on to this log in it's final form, although we're still short of one of the Hawk 'Whips' for the rehearsal.

Frequencies
Here is a list of frequencies heard in use during the Queen's Birthday Fly-Past rehearsal. I don't claim them to be the only frequencies used, only the ones I picked anything up on. Hopefully they will use some or all of these frequencies again on Saturday for the 'actual'. They should talk to Wattisham, Southend and Thames/City Radar on the way down from Southwold. If the weather is too bad for the full flypast then it will be reduced to the BBMF plus the 9 Typhoons. If it's really bad then it will be just the Typhoons and if it's even worse they'll cancel !!

142.375 = WINDSOR WHIP Hawk T.1's 100 Sqn Air-to-Air
242.100 = SCIMITAR Tornado F.3's - Leuchars Air-to-Air
242.200 = BATMAN Tornado GR.4's
259.675 = WINDSOR FORMATION main air-to-air
264.175 = EXPORT, SCIMITAR, NIMROD Tornado F.3's and Nimrod MR.2
281.150 = BATMAN Tornado GR.4's
293.775 = EXPORT Tornado F.3's
316.325 = TRIPLEX Typhoons
338.850 = SCIMITAR Tornado F.3's - Leuchars Air-to-Air (Also used by WHIP 1)
359.475 = SENTRY E-3D Sentry AEW.1 + Tornado F.3's
371.800 = CLARET formation
